The declaration, which went into effect Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m., provided crucial authority to Union County's Sheriff’s Office and administrative team. This included the ability to close roads impacted by flooding and issue citations to drivers who ignored emergency barricades. These actions were essential in ensuring the county could swiftly respond to the storm and prioritize the safety of residents.
Fortunately, Union County experienced minimal damage from Tropical Storm Debby. At the storm’s peak, approximately 50 roads across the county were flooded or blocked by fallen trees. Union County Emergency Management extends its gratitude to the numerous partners who worked within the Emergency Operations Center, continuously monitoring conditions and standing ready to respond as needed.
