[ARCHIVED] Tropical Storm Ian: State of Emergency, Town Updates and Resources

Hurricane Update

State of Emergency

Due to forecasted impacts from Tropical Storm Ian, Union County has declared a State of Emergency that goes into effect today, Sept. 29, at 5 p.m. Mayor David Cohn signed a Municipal Consent to the State of Emergency to include Indian Trail.

The State of Emergency declaration gives the Union County Sheriff’s Office the authority to close roads impacted by flooding and issue citations to motorists who disregard emergency barricades.

Town of Indian Trail Important Updates

Early Solid Waste Pick-up

Waste Connections will begin picking up solid waste an hour earlier tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 30. Pick-up will begin at 6 a.m. If you have a Friday pick-up, please put out your solid waste cans tonight or early tomorrow. If there are any other solid waste changes or delays, we will provide additional updates. 

Parks Closing This Weekend

Indian Trail’s three parks – Crooked Creek, Chestnut Square and Crossing Paths – will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. No Indian Trail staff will be at the parks this weekend. Staffing will resume on Monday, Oct. 3. 

Preparations

Indian Trail’s Public Works staff will be surveying and addressing the areas most likely to flood. The Public Works staff will be on-call this weekend. The Sheriff’s Office will also be on patrol and making the Town aware of any issues that will need to be addressed.

As we begin to experience the effects of Tropical Storm Ian, we encourage residents to stay weather-aware, avoid unnecessary travel and have an emergency preparedness plan in place. Below are links to resources to help you prepare and stay safe during the storm. 

The Town of Indian Trail will be working closely with Union County and the Sheriff’s Office to provide regular updates via our social media pages.
