About
David Cohn was appointed as Mayor of Indian Trail at the Feb. 22, 2022, Town Council meeting. He will serve out the remainder of the term of the late Mayor Michael Alvarez. The mayor’s seat is up for reelection in November of 2023. As Mayor, Cohn is also the primary delegate for the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO).
Mayor Cohn was first elected to the Town Council in 2011, and he served two full terms, which included time as the mayor pro tem. In 2020, the Council appointed him to fill the seat of Council Member Shirley Howe, which he did until the November 2022 election.
Before running in 2011, Mayor Cohn was becoming active in local politics and ran for a Council seat to become more involved in Indian Trail. Community service is in his blood and being on the Council provided him a way to stay involved and give back to the Town he loves. A highlight of his time as a Council Member came during his first year when Mayor Cohn was instrumental in helping to pass a bond referendum to build the parks we enjoy today.
During his time as Mayor, Cohn hopes to expand the Town’s parks to offer even more entertainment and activities for Indian Trail’s residents. He also wants to work with NCDOT to improve roadways throughout Town. Mayor Cohn said Indian Trail is already a great place to live, but he wants to make it the best place to live, work, play and visit in the region.
A Charlotte-area native, Mayor Cohn and his wife, Monica, have lived in Indian Trail for the past 16 years. He has three grown children, two sons and a daughter, and five grandchildren.
