With more than 30 years in local government, the Council selected Allen for his experience and expertise. With an interim secured, the Town Council, with guidance from the League of Municipalities, will now focus on the search for a permanent Town Manager.
Allen has had a distinguished career in government, serving the City of Albemarle for 33 years, the last 28 of which he spent as City Manager. He retired from there in 2015, and in the meantime, has served as an interim manager for the Towns of Wadesboro (2018) and Norwood (2019).
Allen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Master of Public Administration degree, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute at the Weldon Cooper Institute for Public Service at the University of Virginia and the Carolinas Leadership Program.
He served a four-year term on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina League of Municipalities, and has served on various other boards including that of the Stanly Community College Foundation and the Friends of the Stanly County Public Library. He is the immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Albemarle, and was recognized as that Club’s Distinguished Rotarian in 2019. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in December 2014.
Allen lives in Albemarle with his wife of 33 years, Dawn. They have two adult sons, one a graduate of NC State University and the other a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill.
